COCA presents the COCAedu 2014 Summer Institute for Arts Integration, July 28-30 at the Regional Arts Commission in St. Louis, MO, and July 31 - August 1 at the Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts in Springfield, MO. The Summer Institute will provide educators, administrators and teaching artists of grades K-8 with strategies on how to use the arts to connect to curricular areas, increase student engagement, deepen student comprehension and identify alternative assessment opportunities. Workshops are designed to let participants explore quality arts integration, and give them the tools and strategies to feel confident using the arts across a variety of content areas. In addition, all workshops will explore ways to use the arts in science and math, in support of the national STEAM movement. Intensive tracks will be led by Sean Layne, Melanie Rick Layne and Randy Barron, arts integration experts and coaches with the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

COCAedu encompasses COCA's work in schools, both in the classroom and through professional development for teachers. Since 1992, COCA has provided schools with arts programs, annually serving thousands of students and teachers through Interchange arts-integration collaborative residencies, artist-in-residence programs, after-school arts classes and professional development for teachers. The COCAedu Summer Institute for Arts Integration is an annual program that serves as the cornerstone of COCA's professional development offerings for teachers.
