The Midnight Company will present the St. Louis premiere of Mickle Maher's An Apology for the Course and Outcome of Certain Events Delivered by Doctor John Faustus On This His Final Evening at Dressel's Pub in the Central West End, June 2-24, with Opening Night on Wednesday. June 2, with a subsequent performance on Thursday June 3, and then Tuesdays thru Thursdays beginning Wednesday, June 9. Performances are at 7:30 each night. Tickets are $20 (seniors/students $15), and, with limited seating, should be reserved by calling (314) 487-5305.

A lean, tragicomic version of the Faustus story, AN APOLOGY... presents Doctor Faustus in the last hour of his final night on earth - irritated, whining and repentant of nothing save his failure to keep a proper diary. Over the course of this hour, he rails against his silent servant Mephistopheles and tells the fantastic tale of his life - a life filled with wonders, as well as an immeasurably vast evil.

Its tenth anniversary revival by Theater Oobleck in the Fall of 2009 garnered comments such as "brilliance that is alchemical...taps into something beyond theater or literature" (Chicago Stage Review), "fascinating piece of avant-garde Chicago brain candy" (Chicago Tribune), "the play's hilarious...enough to make the evening unmissable" (Time Out Chicago) "the best piece of theater I saw all year. Funny, moving, spectacularly written" (AWG in Chicago.)

In 2002, The Midnight Company presented Maher's The Hunchback Variations, described by the Post-Dispatch as "cerebral, comic and just plain weird," and the production was invited to play the 2003 Philadelphia Fringe Festival.

Sarah Whitney, who has directed several Midnight productions and who has just been named an Associate Director of the group, will direct An Apology...Midnight Artistic Director Joe Hanrahan will portray Faustus and Travis Hanrahan will play Mephistopheles.
