Grammy Award-winning vocalist Judy Collins returns to The Sheldon stage on Saturday, December 5 at 8 p.m. for the Friends of The Sheldon Winter Benefit with special guest Kenny White. With a career spanning over 40 years, Judy Collins continues to thrill audiences worldwide with her unique blend of interpretative folk songs and contemporary themes, making this concert a can't miss event!

Known for her interpretation of songs such as "Send in the Clowns" and "Both Sides Now," Judy Collins began her career in the folk clubs of Colorado, making her way east to Greenwich Village and the 1960s folk scene. Her 1967 album, Wildflowers, earnEd Collins her first Grammy nomination, which lead her to record "Mr. Tambourine Man" and "Turn, Turn, Turn" with Roger McGuinn. Her success continued through the ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s with original songs including "My Father" and "Born to Breed," and a Bob Dylan tribute album, Judy Sings Dylan...Just Like a Woman. She was the first to record the songs of Leonard Cohen and helped to bring musicians like Randy Newman and Joni Mitchell to widespread public exposure. Collins continues to record, with a recent album in 2005, Portrait of an American Girl.

Throughout her career, Judy Collins has been socially active as she is a representative for UNICEF and an advocate for the destruction of landmines and suicide prevention. She has written a memoir and two novels, and has received two Grammy Awards and an Academy Award nomination. Judy Collins continues to create music of hope and healing that lights up the world and speaks to the heart.

Pianist Kenny White opens the concert. Known for his insightful, well-crafted, original songs, White began his career in New York City writing music for movies, television and commercials, working with artists such as Linda Ronstadt, Gladys Knight and Ricky Skaggs. He moved to Boston to try his hand on the singer-songwriter circuit and collaborated with artist such as Shawn Colvin, Richard Shindell and Cheryl Wheeler. His latest album, Symphony in 16 Bars, was released on Judy Collins independent Wildflower Records.

Proceeds from this very special evening benefit Sheldon educational programs which serve over 20,000 St. Louis area students each year.
