Josh is an attractive and charming novelist who's just signed a deal to publish his first novel. George, his childhood friend, and Liz, his literary agent and old college "friend with benefits" are both madly in love with Josh and throw him a big party. Their cozy arrangement is turned upside down when Candi, Josh's sexy and ambitious writing student and a mysterious gun turn up the next morning. Hostages are held, dark truths are revealed, and eventually a trigger is pulled.
"Playwrights are the only creative artists who must entrust their creation to others in order to have it realized. The play in its written form is only a blueprint. The story is not fully told until it is enacted by actors and witnessed by an audience. It is an event that is shaped by the collaborative effort of many. The process from page to stage can be a long and arduous one.
Programs like the Greenhouse Series give playwrights the time and resources to develop their work. This past year Jami Brandli has been doing just that. After having been chosen out of more than 300 playwrights, Jami has spent the last several months developing her play in preparation for production in the HotCity mainstage season. As the director, being a part of this process has been a privilege. I have had the opportunity to help shape the play in ways that I never could with an established script. This process has helped me rediscover what a dynamic process theatre really is."
