The anarchist at Teatro Español

The last work of David Mamet, The anarchist, was released under his own direction on December 4 at the Rialto Theatre of Broadway, and the same day, also premiered at the small Hall of the Spanish Theatre.



The two actresses, Magui Mira (recently nominated to the Valle Inclán Award for this work) and Ana Wagener have defended this work in 48 functions attended by a total of 4.384 spectators, which is an occupation of nearly 80%, obtaining a sold-out weeks by what many people ran out to see it. Therefore, the Spanish Theatre has decided to replace this Assembly during the spring so that the general public who could not get during his first exhibition.



David Mamet, essayist, novelist, playwright, screenwriter and director of American cinema, has written memorable screenplays such as the postman always rings twice and the untouchables, as well as sign plays like Glengarry Glen Ross, awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 1984.



The plot is situated in a women's prison where one sentenced to life imprisonment for terrorism plays probation in an interview with a prison officer. The work faces locked in character, but free mentally, with a character who lives in liberty, but mental prisoner of their prejudices and their punitive mission. Even locked in jail, the prisoner has been able to lead a richer life than its guardian, which has been limited to watch it obsessively.



A reflection on power and his true nature, as well as on the usefulness or not of jail to suppress crime and change the criminal.
