Daniel Veronese, the extraordinary Argentinean dramatist, actor and director, offers us a fantastic line-up for the performance of “The Children are Asleep”, an adaptation of one of the great theatre plays by A. Chejov, “The Seagull”.
Only the calm habits of everyday life, banality and minimalism appear to be able to draw a veil over what bubbles deeply, over confusion and disorder, isolation and lack of understanding. Wisdom, education, humanity and ability to sacrifice are almost inexistent values, denied to this rural acting group with a very strange idiosyncrasy. They appear to feel and decide: it is better to distance oneself and not interfere in the course of history, eating away at oneself, destroying oneself...
A question hangs over the play: Is it possible to avoid this spiritual doping and allow the soul to flow freely? I still tend to think about the beneficial and healthy function: creation and man’s attitude towards this creation and why not? Obviously, the problem is presented without its corresponding solution. (Daniel Veronese)
