David and Joseba are childhood friends. Hardly had they grown up when David found out that his father had collaborated with the nationals during the Civil War. Fascinated by the discovery of the anti-Franco struggle, they both decide to become active in the incipient ETA at the beginning of the 1970s, one on ideological grounds and the other for emotional reasons. Following a short and clumsy period of clandestine struggle, they are exiled to France. Shortly afterwards, David is disillusioned and later leaves and betrays his friend and the band. After leaving prison, hated by his people, David emigrates to America to start a new life.
Thirty years later, David, who is on his deathbed at his ranch in California after having finally led a happy life, receives a visit from Joseba, who wants to settle the score of the past. The accordionist’s son will have to face the ghosts from which he tried to escape.
“El hijo del acordeonista” (The Accordionist’s Son) is a production in Basque and Spanish, for which the Arriaga Theatre in Bilbao, the Principal Theatre in Vitoria, the Victoria Eugenia Theatre in San Sebastian and the Tanttaka Teatroa production company have joined forces.
