The Piano Concerto no. 1 is a clear example of romanticism. Noted for its intense dramatic and skillful dialogue between the solo instrument and the orchestra, which acts as a mere piano accompanist, but there has shared a stage.
Symphony no. 5 was written following a complex period in the composer's life. With a brilliant orchestration, presents, through a leitmotiv present from the beginning of the work, the idea of inexorable fate as set out in the Fourth Symphony.
