What is a fair price to pay for success? When the corsair Simon Boccanegra was young, his mistress died and his baby daughter vanished. Twenty-five years later, now Doge of Genoa, he is reunited with his daughter Amelia. But his political enemies threaten to disrupt his new-found happiness and one of them is his daughter's lover, Gabriele Adorno.
Opera comprising a prologue and three acts. Libretto based on the work of the same title by Antonio García Gutiérrez. Original by Francesco Maria Piave, altered by Giuseppe Montanelli and revised by Arrigo Boito. World premiere: 12/03/1857 at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice. First Barcelona performance: 31/12/1862 at the Liceu. Last Liceu performance: 14/01/2009 Number of Liceu performances: 33.
