Pablo Messiez, part of a generation of young, Argentinean actors and directors, such as Daniel Veronese or Claudio Tolcachir, who are bringing a breath of fresh air to theatre in the Spanish language, has chosen “The Maids” to tell us about the present day. In his own words: ”… we are surrounded, here and now, by people who justify ethically questionable behaviour from their positions of power, because “we are in times of crisis”. As if “the crisis” were “the plague”, an abstract entity with specific consequences: the death of values…For this reason, from the crisis, without stage design or wardrobe, using just the actors and lighting, we aim to tell of the anger of these maids, which is the same as all those who have been subject to the unpunished logic of a superior…”.
