To mark the bicentenary of Verdi's birth, the Gran Teatre del Liceu is opening the 2013-2014 season with a great Verdi celebration, divided into four tempos or concerts, covering almost the whole of his great operatic oeuvre. An exceptional and unique proposal during an opera season that offers a sweeping overview of a composer's work, who, in himself, could be considered the ultimate representative of the nineteenth-century Italian repertoire. The programme, which covers his entire catalogue from Oberto, Conte di San Bonifacio to Falstaff, is not limited to offering a chronological view. The Liceu wanted to use this anniversary to reveal some of the best-kept secrets of Verdi's work, forgotten, rejected or alternative fragments which have been lost from public memory over the course of history. A box of surprises offering us the best of Verdi's voices.
