In a school playground in the Basque Country, seven people are playing. They do not know each other but they are there in that place… for some reason. This is the start of a show that speaks of what we never talk about: the Basque tale, which is not one, but many tales, and the fear to reveal our political condition within a region in which blood still hangs heavy.
Co-existence in our land has always been complex. The years of terror caused much and extremely diverse pain. Today, it is time to look ahead, towards the future. It is time to reflect and be self-critical. However, above all, it is time to find ourselves. This is THE PLAYGROUND: a space where people with diverse ideologies co-exist. It is an exercise of empathy, a chant for freedom and human rights. It is a theatre show that seeks to heal wounds by looking at the other in the eyes.
Project selected within the framework of the “New Dramaturgies – Antzerkigintza berriak” initiative, backed by the Arriaga Theatre in Bilbao, el Principal Theatre in Vitoria-Gasteiz and the Victoria Eugenia Theatre in San Sebastian.
