“I believe that we are often reductionists and we portray Shakespeare with some kind of assassin distance that… allows us to say… “that”s how they spoke in those days”…”that”s how they behaved in those days”, or…”they believed in revenge”…, “they believed in ghosts”. This is not true. The ghost is as extraordinary for Horatio or Hamlet as it would be for us today”, according to Will Keen, director of this staging, who, in recent years, has starred in shows at leading British theatres, such as the National Theatre, Shakespeare”s Globe Theatre or the Royal Shakespeare Company.
Now, he offers us a new and vivacious version of Hamlet, with “the determination of maintaining the actor and the word as the absolute centre of everything”. As Alberto San Juan, its star, says: “Shakespeare talks about my parents, my friends, my neighbours …”.
