“El caserío” (The Farmhouse), the immortal zarzuela by Jesús Guridi returns to our stage. Since his debut in 1926 at the Zarzuela Theatre in Madrid, he has become a symbol of Basque music and a sentimental benchmark for fans of lyric theatre.
Our staging is the acclaimed production which made its debut in the Arriaga in January 2011, with stage design by Daniel Bianco and stage management by Pablo Viar.
The extraordinary cast is led by the great soprano, Ainhoa Arteta, in the role of Ana Mari, with the tenor, José Luis Sola, playing José Miguel and the baritone, Javier Franco, in the role of Uncle Shanti.
This is a new opportunity to see this Arrigorri which, in the words of Pablo Viar, “…happily has something of a heavenly hamlet, an image frozen in time. It also has something of an idealised village, as if seen from the point of view of a poet or a traveller …”.
