In this Southern-fried comedy the Verdeen cousins - Gaynelle, Peaches, and Jimmie Wyvette - have agreed to host the annual gathering of the wildly eccentric Verdeen clan. Self-righteous aunt LaMerle reminds them that the eyes of Texas are upon them, with good reason. Peaches, the number one mortuarial cosmetologist in the tri-county area, is declaring her long lost, long haul trucker husband dead, and Jimmie, the rough around the edges manager of Whatley's Western Wear, is resorting to extreme measures for the affections of Sweetgum's newest widower. Can things get any worse after a neighbor's pet devours the food, a one-eyed suitor declares his love, and a high stakes wager is made on who bakes the best red velvet cake?
