The Hilton Head Christian Academy performing arts department presents the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, The Sound of Music. The beloved musical story of Maria and the von Trapp Family will thrill audiences with its Tony, Grammy and Academy Award winning Best Score, including "My Favorite Things," "Do-Re-Mi," "Climb Ev'ry Mountain," "Edelweiss" and the title song, "The Sound of Music." Based on the true story of the Von Trapp Family Singers, this play captures a personal tale of growth and hope amidst the horrors of World War II.

Young postulant Maria Rainer, whose free spirit has trouble fitting into the rules of Nonnberg Abbey is commissioned by the Mother Abbess to serve as governess for the seven motherless VonTrapp children. Maria transforms the family home from a disciplined place to one filled with joy, laughter, and music. In the process, Maria wins the hearts of all seven children -- and their widower father, Captain Von Trapp. Maria and the Captain marry and when they return from their honeymoon, they learn that Austria has been taken over by the Nazis, and the retired Captain is asked to report for immediate service in the Navy. When the Nazis show up at their door to take Captain Von Trapp away, it is a family singing engagement that buys the family time to make their narrow escape.

The artistic team is led by Director Michelle McElroy, with Music Direction by James Berry and Choreography by Patti and Cassie Maurer. McElroy remarked, "This is a show our creative team has wanted to tackle for years and with several successful seasons under our belts paired with an all-star lineup of kids, we finally felt the time was right," The talented HHCA cast is comprised of 35 students ranging in age from 2nd grade to 12th grade.

Cast members include: Elliott Lentz (Maria), Daniel Harrington (Von Trapp), Clay Holmberg (Max), Jacey Robinson (Elsa), Emma Stewart (Mother Abbess) and Von Trapp children: Samantha Norton (Leisl), Caden Becker (Frederich), Addeline Lentz (Louisa), Christian Becker (Kurt), Emmelia Lentz (Brigitta), Millie Gilbreath (Marta) and Ella Kate Green as Gretl.
