Centre Stage is proud to present a staged reading of Marsha Norman's Pulitzer Prize-winning drama, 'night, Mother starring Upstate acting legend, Shirley Sarlin, and one of Greenville's favorite leading actresses, Kelly Wallace. 'night Mother is a special two-night only event: Tuesday, April 5th and Wednesday, April 6th at 7:00 p.m.

'night, Mother asks the powerful question: what would you do if someone you loved sat down with you one night and calmly told you that they were going to end their life before morning? This is Thelma Cates' dilemma. Her daughter, Jessie, has had it. A middle-aged epileptic unable to hold a job, with a failed marriage and drug-addicted runaway son on the wrong side of the law, Jessie can find no reason to go on living. 'night, Mother is the powerful story of a parent's worst nightmare. How can Thelma convince Jessie that life is worth living if she can't feel her pain? How can she end her daughter's embrace of death before morning?

Directed by Brian Haimbach, 'night, Mother stars Shirley Sarlin as Thelma Cates and Kelly Wallace as Jessie Cates. Tickets are $5.00 per person and will be sold at the door the evening of each reading. Please note, the box office will only accept cash or check for the $5.00 admission of 'night, Mother.

Shirley Sarlin has studied drama at The American Academy of Dramatic Art in New York City, as well as the University of North Carolina and trained privately with Kathryn Tindal in New York. A charter member of the Pickens County Arts Commission, she served on the commission for 28 years, nine of those as chairman. Her service there has been recognized by an annual juried prize established in her honor. She also established three annual arts awards for Liberty High School students for excellence in drama, chorus and band. Ms. Sarlin has appeared in over 60 productions in Virginia, Florida, the Carolinas, Georgia, Ohio and Washington. Her credits include The Glass Menagerie (Amanda), Foxfire (Annie), Grace and Glorie (Grace), The Road to Mecca (Helen), Death of a Salesman (Linda), the one-woman show, The Other Side of Golda -- At Home With Golda Meir, and most recently, starring in the title role of the sold-out run of Driving Miss Daisy at Centre Stage last June.

Kelly Wallace is no stranger to Greenville audiences, most recently appearing as the Queen in BFG (Big Friendly Giant) at the South Carolina Children's Theatre, and as Reba Freitag in The Last Night of Ballyhoo at Centre Stage. Ms. Wallace's other credits include Bus Stop (Grace Hoylard), Our Leading Lady (Verbena DeChamblay), and See Rock City (Mrs. Gill).
