Trustus Theatre's Executive Director continues his roster of zany annual fundraisers tonight, June 4th at 7 pm at the Music Farm, this year with "Larry's Favorite Things." In the tradition of hosting his faux funeral, family reunion and a bizarre wedding, followed by last year's "Larry's Bring Your Own Dinner Dinner Theatre."
This year's fundraiser for Trustus Theatre's annual operating fund, is a birthday party he is throwing for himself sponsored by and at The Music Farm, a larger venue that was needed as he has now has 4,153 Facebook friends.
"Yes, that's right," Hembree says, "I am turning 55 years old on June 5 and so I am forcing everyone to contribute to Trustus Theatre in order to celebrate with me so I can get my next paycheck."
"Larry's Favorite Things" features a wide array of his favorite performing artists (all singing live with no tracks) including the sort-of magnificent Twitty Triplets, who will be premiering a Cher medley from their upcoming Trustus premiere of Robbie Robertson's "The Twitty Triplets Return" and then some legitimate talent singing some of Larry's favorite songs. Legitimate talents include Caroline Weidner, Kevin Bush, Janet Hopkins, Courtney Selwyn and Mark Zeigler among others.
The finale of the evening will be an original slightly irreverent and potentially offensive presentation created by Hembree, an abbreviated concert version of his favorite movie and Broadway musical , "The Sound of Music" with an all-male cast including Gerald Floyd, Steve Hillard, Gary Cannon, Jason Kinsey, Chip Stubbs, Bryan Bender, Luke Holt, Jim Mooney, Jason Stokes, John Wilkinson, Jared Glover, Stan Gardner, Steven Thompson, Jason Watkins, Charles Felsberg, Shane Walters, John Radford, Matthew DeGuire, Frank Thompson, Bill DeWitt and Tyler Ryan. Music direction is by Randy Moore and choreography is by no one. There will be a cash bar at the Music Farm event.
There will also be an after party which begins at 11 pm at Trustus Theatre which includes free beer and wine. The party will continue Larry's love of musical theatre. Linda's Carraoke Karaoke will be in full swing with participants allowed to sing only tunes from Broadway musicals, at least until all of the Barbara Streisand songs have been performed or Larry turns 55, whichever comes first.
Cost of "Larry's Favorite Things" is $30 and tickets can be purchased online at www.trustus.org or by calling the theatre at 803-254-9732. The Music Farm is located at 1022 Senate Street in the Vista.
