Centre Stage proudly opens the winner of the 2010 New Play Festival, Identity Crisis by Peter Snoad. This hysterically funny comic caper won the most votes from our 2010 New Play Festival audience members in October. If you missed the staged reading, then you won't want to miss this insightful comedy, and if you did see the staged reading, you won't want to miss seeing the show as a full-fledged production.

Identity Crisis tells a story with a madcap premise: White people are turning Black and its a phenomenon that's sweeping the country. On the eve of his wedding, Alan Guthrie learns that it's about to happen to him. And he's freaked -- not least because his racist prospective father-in-law would never allow his daughter to marry a Black man. A desperate Alan comes up with a daring and creative solution that launches him and his co-conspirators on a hare-brained, pre-nuptial adventure involving organic vegetables, ventriloquism, a golfing accident, and, well, some serious identity issues...

Directed by Peter Saputo, Identity Crisis features local Upstate actors Thomas Azar, Maegan Azar, Deb Warren and Jason Farr.

Identity Crisis runs through January 22 with 8:00 p.m. performances on Jan. 13, 14, 15, 20, 21, 22 and one Sunday matinee on Jan. 16 at 3:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 with discounts for students. All seats are reserved. To purchase tickets, call the box office at 864-233-6733. Box Office hours are Tuesday-Friday from 2:00-6:00 p.m. and two hours before performances.
