The Carolina Youth Symphony, under the baton of Dr. Leslie W. Hicken, will perform on stage of the ultimate musical venue, Carnegie Hall, for the seventh time, April 21, 2019. To perform once is quite an honor, but to be invited back for a seventh performance confirms the extraordinary quality and caliber of these young musicians.

The Carolina Youth Symphony, founded in 1955, is one of the oldest youth symphonies in the United States.

CYS is made up of over 250 musically gifted and geographically diverse young people, representing 80 schools, 35 cities and 2 states; divided into 3 orchestras performing 10 concerts a year. This year, in its 62nd season, CYS continues a program dedicated to nurturing and fostering exceptional musicianship, pride and self esteem in young people.

In recognition of the quality of the Carolina Youth Symphony's organization and programs, the South Carolina Arts Commission awarded the Carolina Youth Symphony the Elizabeth O'Neill Verner Governor's Awards for the Arts, the highest honor the state presents in the arts.

Auditions for membership will take place May 5th and 19th at Furman University. Bring Your Instrument and Play Day is April 8th where we encourage students to attend a rehearsal with their instrument and sit in and play with us to get a feel for our orchestras.
