Winner of two Obie Awards and two Outer Critics Circle Awards as Best New American Play and Best Off-Broadway Production. An inspired comic romp, equal in inventive hilarity to the author's classic comedy The Nerd. Based on what the NY Post describes as a "devilishly clever idea," the play demonstrates what can happen when a group of devious characters must deal with a stranger who (they think) knows no English. MARIA RANIER, CAPTAIN VON TRAPP, MOTHER ABBES, SISTER BERTHA, SISTER MARGARETTA, SISTER SOPHIA, FRAU SCHMIDT, ELSA SCHRAEDER , MAX DETWEILER (late 30's to early 60's), ROLF (to play age 17)must sing well and dance very well, FRANZ (middle-aged), Non-singing role; HERR ZELLER (middle-aged) Non-singing role; BARON ELBERFELD , Non-singing role; ADMIRAL VON SCHREIBER, Non-singing role; LIESL (to play age 16),must sing well and dance very well.

THE CHILDREN: FRIEDRICH (to play age 14); LOUISA (to play age 13); KURT (to play age 10; BRIGITTA (to play age 9); MARTA (to play age 7); GRETL (to play age 5). All CHILDREN must sing well harmonize, and move well.
FEMALE SINGERS, all ages, to play nuns, party guests, and concert contestants. Must sing well (Legit, all voIce Types), and move.
MALES, all ages, to play party guests, concert contestants, and Nazi soldiers. Singing and movement a plus.
