Audiences have been clamoring for it for nearly five and a half years, and Trustus Theatre is set to deliver a tasty theatrical treat this March: they're bringing back 5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche! This play made its Trustus Theatre debut in Season 28 and was such a hit that when it came back in Season 29, the entire run was sold out before opening night! It is a delightfully bawdy, slightly over-the-top, fun production will have you laughing from the first line through the final bows. 5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche will open in the Fellowship Hall at Reformation Lutheran Church on Friday, March 8, 2019 and will run through Sunday, March 17, 2019. This limited run will have eight performances including three afternoon matinees. Tickets may be purchased at www.trustus.org or by calling the Trustus Theatre Box Office at 803-254-9732.
It's 1956, and the Susan B. Anthony Society for the Sisters of Gertrude Stein are having their annual quiche breakfast. You're not only invited, but you're a member, too (and you've got a name tag to verify it.) Will they be able to keep their cool when Communists threaten their idyllic town?
"This show is a fan favorite, and we often have people requesting it," Trustus Theatre Artistic Director Chad Henderson said. "So, we're giving our audiences what they want. This season, we're taking this show off-site because we wanted to give our audiences a new experience with this piece. We wanted to find a way to bring this show to a larger audience as well-our Side Door Theatre seats 50 patrons, and we wanted to be able to serve more audiences in a larger space. We're lucky to be able to partner with Reformation Lutheran. This show takes place in a church basement, or bunker if you will, so we thought it'd be fun to perform the show in a church space. Pastor Bupp and his congregation have been very welcoming, so we're excited to bring this show to more people at a site that mirrors the actual setting of the play."
This play was written by Evan Linder and Andrew Hobgood, and will be directed by Trustus Theatre Company member Robin Gottlieb. Gottlieb is back to direct this piece for the third time, having directed the original runs at Trustus Theatre in Season 28 and Season 29. Returning original cast members include Vicky Saye Henderson, Emily Meadows, Katie Mixon with Trustus Company members Krista Forster and Jennifer Hill joining the cast. Becky Hunter will be returning as Stage Manager for the play.
"Directing 5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche for the third time is a gift!" Gottlieb said. "I have always dreamed of producing this show in a church social hall, as that is where the show takes place. I think that the audience will have a very authentic experience in the Fellowship Hall at Reformation Lutheran-it adds an entirely new layer to this laugh-a-minute show. While I miss the original cast and our incredible chemistry, I am truly enjoying the new energy this cast is bringing to the show. Krista Forster is a new cast member but she's professional and fearless, and she'll bring the house down. Vicky Saye Henderson brings experience and consistency to her third time in this show. Katie Mixon is another extremely consistent, sincere, and professional actor... she even came in to town from Thailand to recreate her role. Talk about dedication! Jennifer Hill has so much energy and adds sexiness to her role; both men and women will have a crush on her. Emily Meadows brings an innocence and rawness that cannot be taught. She's hysterical and her character is endearing. Having Becky Hunter as my Stage Manager for every incarnation has proven invaluable. Together, we are putting together a tight package of fun!"
