A young boy from a Filipino fishing village has died while working as a diver on a Leviathan fishing trawler, one that uses the controversial Muro-ami style of fishing that has since been outlawed. In this play, a mother is guilt-ridden about her son’s death. In her village’s Good Friday tradition, a man is elected to portray Christ and be crucified. The mother wants to perform this role as penance for sending her own child to the Muro-ami. This play powerfully addresses child labor laws, religion and environmental issues.
Ages: Appropriate for ages 16 and older.
