Few stories are as timeless or reveal the courage and resilience of the human spirit as The Miracle Worker.
Follow the story of young Helen Keller, deaf and blind since infancy, as she finds her way into the world of knowledge and understanding with the help of Annie Sullivan, her gifted tutor. In some of the most turbulent and emotion-packed scenes ever presented on the stage, Helen overcomes rage and confusion to triumph over her physical disabilities.
The Miracle Worker was the second Broadway effort by playwright William Gibson, and his most acclaimed work. After earning three Tony awards on Broadway, the 1962 film version received several Oscar nominations and Oscars for its stars Anne Bancroft and Patty Duke. The determination and grit of teacher Annie Sullivan is still a shining example today of victory over unbelievable odds accomplished through conviction, perseverance, and love.
Mishawaka native and Wright State University Alumni, Abby Murray-Vachon has the immense challenge of playing Annie Sullivan, and Millersberg 10th grader Hannan Shetler plays Helen Keller. In addition, the production features the youngest actor that has ever appeared on the Joseph Stein Stage. Revel Ferris-Curtis plays Helen's younger sister, Mildred. Revel will be 12 weeks old on opening night, and her off-stage mother and father Tucker Curtis and Heidi Ferris play Kate and Arthur Keller, Helen and Mildred's parents. Round Barn Theatre favorite Don Hart plays Dr. Anagnos, Chicago actor Quinn Rattan playing Helen's older half-brother, James, screen and stage actress Myesha-Tiara Garner plays Viney, and 10-year RBT veteran Rita Kurtz plays Aunt Ev.
The cast also features some local child actors. Amelia Lowry from Bremen plays Beatrice, a student at the Perkins Institute for the Blind, and also understudies Helen Keller, and Brooklyn and Charles Redd of Warkarusa portray brother and sister Martha and Percy.
