South Bend Civic Theatre presents The Clean House March 7-23, Sarah Ruhl's moving comedy about cleaning, cancer, and a joke so powerful, you just might die laughing.
Brazilian immigrant Matilde is hired as a housekeeper by busy doctors Lane and Charles - only she'd rather tell jokes than clean! An alliance with Lane's eccentric sister and Charles's affair with a patient take the story to unexpected places with revelations of pain, hope and laughter. The Clean House is a wildly funny, whimsical look at class, comedy, and the nature of love that gives new meaning to "I almost died laughing." This extraordinary play by an exciting new voice in American drama was runner-up for the Pulitzer Prize.
Director Jim Geisel leads Mary Ann Moran, Lucinda Moriarty, Mary Beth Saunders, April Sellers, and Bill Svelmoe in the play the New York Times called "fresh, funny... a memorable play."
The Clean House performs in the Warner Theatre March 7-23, 2014. Tickets are $18 Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, and $15 Wednesdays and Thursdays.
