South Bend Civic Theatre has received ownership of a building owned by Geri Hathaway for use as a permanent administrative office. The property, located at 215 West Madison Street in South Bend, is next door to SBCT's previous office and adjacent to the main theatre building at 403 North Main Street.

Mrs. Hathaway explained donating the property because she was "drawn to South Bend Civic Theatre not just because of proximity but also because the building began as a residence and then was a commercial architectural and interior design firm, an artistic enterprise. I value that it would remain in the hands of another artistic enterprise. I have great respect for the theatre and the quality of work using volunteers from the community."

Artistic Director Mark Abram-Copenhaver said SBCT's use of the building will focus on "ways we can use the facility to enhance our day-to-day work as well as allowing our theatrical artists a space to collaborate in a design lab for the theatre's endeavors with a room using the moniker 'Collaboratory.'"

Though SBCT has been using the building as temporary headquarters beginning in 2011, the addition of the three story property as a permanent addition to the theatre campus will give needed space for staff and artists.

The previous office site at 211 West Madison is still SBCT property and the theatre is exploring creative uses for the space though its present condition renders it unusable as a day-to-day office space.
