Spring into fun and learning with South Bend Civic Theatre classes for kids! Youth from kindergarten to high school will have opportunities to explore the magic of making theatre. Taught by experienced and enthusiastic instructors, these classes will give kids the skills in acting, musical theatre, improv, and more fun subjects.
Many studies have shown the importance of arts education in shaping skills needed for successful child development. At South Bend Civic Theatre, we are committed to giving community children top flight theatre classes designed to teach skills and having fun while learning.
Classes begin the week of April 14, 2012 and will run six weeks. All classes will be held in South Bend Civic Theatre’s Warner Studio Theatre, 403 N. Main Street, South Bend.

K & 1 – “I Just Can’t Wait to be King” – Stretching and using their imaginations, students will dance, sing and even make masks to create their very own animal family
Saturday mornings from 9:30 to 10:30

Starts Saturday April 14th and ends May 19th
2 & 3rd – “You Never had a Friend Like Me!” – Team work is what theatre is all about. Using this wonderful song from Aladdin, and others, students will learn to work together to “act out” the songs
Tuesdays from 5:30 to 6:45
Cost - $75.00
Starts Tuesday April 17th and ends May 22nd
4th – 6th Rockin’ it with “School House Rock” – alright it helped us learn about conjunctions and prepositions but if I may interject – it also is a rockin’ play. Using songs and scenes from School House Rock, students will learn vocal techniques and choreography – then put it all together!
Thursdays from 5:15 to 6:45
Cost - $90.00
Starts Thursday April 19th and ends May 24th
6th – 12th Improv and Physical Comedy – The art of improv is at the base of acting! You’ll learn how to be spontaneous, feed off of your scene partners, and open up your imagination. Add to that learning pratfalls and some good old fashion slapstick comedy will make this a totally fun class!
Mondays from 5:15 to 6:45

Starts Monday April 16th and ends May 21st
9th – 12th Musical Theatre Workshop - from Hammerstein to Schwartz students in this workshop will work with partners as they learn Broadway standards, how to relate to their scene partners, and how to stay in character.
Saturdays from 11:00 to 12:30
