There's no place like Oz this summer. Join SBCT on July 14-30, and travel over the rainbow to a magical kingdom filled with munchkins, flying monkeys, witches, and a wish-granting wizard. Join four friends as they discover wisdom, compassion, courage, and a way back home.
Based off the classic book, The Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum, we join Dorothy Gayle (Anastasia Spalding) as she is tornado plucked from her Kansas farm and transported to a whimsical kingdom where adventure lies around every bend. As she travels toward the Emerald City, Dorothy is joined by a group of colorful friends: the Scarecrow (Graham Sparks), Tin Man (Lincoln Wright), and a cowardly Lion (Nicholas Hidde-Halsey). Together they set off to find the powerful Wizard of Oz (Cecil Eastman), while struggling to keep Dorothy, her little dog Toto, and a pair of magical Ruby Slippers away from the evil clutches of the Wicked Witch of the West (Dawn Hagerty).
Featuring classic songs from the legendary movie, The Wizard of Oz is a perfect summer experience for the whole family. Filled with theatrical magic and surprises, it will delight both Oz enthusiasts and those taking their first trip down the yellow brick road. Performances will be held July 14-30 on the Marjorie H. and James M. Wilson Auditorium at the South Bend Civic Theatre, located at 403 North Main Street in downtown South Bend. David Case directs the production, with musical direction by Roy Bronkema and choreography by Callie Lorenz. Tickets: $15-22 (group packages available).
