The mission of the Department of Theatre and Drama is to advance the art, scholarship, and appreciation of the theatre and its place in society. We pursue this mission collectively and as individuals through theatrical productions, presentation of our work in national and international venues, formal instruction, and individual mentoring.
The Department of Theatre and Drama is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST) and is a member of the University/Resident Theatre Association (U/RTA) and United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT).
As part of its undergraduate program, the Department offers a BA in Theatre and Drama as well as Stage Management, and a BFA in Musical Theatre. Students pursuing graduate options can work toward at Master of Arts, MFA (with concentrations in Acting, Directing, Playwriting, and Design & Technology) as well as a Doctor of Philosophy.
IU's Theatre production season concludes with the Stephen Sondheim musical SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE which opens tonight, APril 12, and runs thru April 20 in the Ruth N. Halls Theatre. Directed and choreographed by George Pinney, the cast will feature Todd Aulwurm, Brian Bandura, Jenny Case, Elaine Cotter, Kayla Eilers, Jessica Evans, Caleb Fath, Mia Fitzgibbon, Joe Giovannetti, Meghan Goodman, Samantha Mason, Kaitlyn Mayse, Markus McClain, Cameron Mullin, Preston Orr, Nick Pappas, Nathan Robbins, Colin Schreier, Emily Schultheis, Kelsey Shaw and Ava Vanderkolff.
