THE ADDAMS FAMILY Musical is by Andrew Lippa, Marshal Brickman & Rick Elice and this is the professional South African premiere.
Based on the beloved characters created by Charles Addams, THE ADDAMS FAMILY Musical centres around the eccentric, macabre, and ghoulish Addams family, led by Gomez and Morticia Addams. With witty one-liners, crazy characters, spooky effects and all the weird wonderfulness fans of the most outrageous family ever have come to expect, the show will be a holiday hit for young and old alike.
A cult hit all round the world, THE ADDAMS FAMILY Musical ran on Broadway for 722 performances, garnering numerous awards and spawning many international productions. The highly anticipated South African production will feature a world-class ensemble of performers and opens on 14 December 2024 at the old Fugard, now called The Homecoming Centre, in Cape Town.
Leading the cast are Samantha Peo (Chicago, Cabaret) as Morticia Addams, Tiaan Rautenbach (We Will Rock You, Mama Mia) as Gomez Addams, Bethany Dickson (Matilda, The Sound of Music) as Alice Beineke, Brendan van Rhyn (Cathy Specific, The Rocky Horror) as Lurch, Chad Baai (Buddy) as Lucas Beineke, and Jordyn Schaefer as Wednesday Addams.
They will be supported by Candice van Litsenborgh, Yahto Kraft, Chris van Rensburg, Lara Visagie, Rebecca Hartle, Jasmine Minter, Jessica de Bod, Braeden Buys, Brandon Jones and Jayden Dickson. The production will be directed by Garth Tavares and choreographed by Nkosinathi Mazwai, with set, costume and lighting designs by the award-winning team of Marthinus Basson and Nicolaas de Jongh.
The Homecoming Centre, previously known as The Fugard, reopened its doors as a professional performing arts centre in 2023 with the award-winning production of The Promise. Recognised as South Africa’s favourite boutique theatre, it grew to international prominence under the stewardship of producer Eric Abraham, who transformed it into a world-class performing arts venue. The theatre's diverse repertoire has included acclaimed productions such as The Rocky Horror Show, Cabaret, Kinky Boots, Blood Brothers, and a range of successful David Kramer musicals. With its slightly gothic appearance and interesting history, the Homecoming Centre is the perfect venue for this stirring production.
