2013 was quite a year for ImproGuise, Cape Town’s longest running and most loved improvisation company, with their second Soap-A-Thon, a 15 hour improv marathon that raised a whack of money for Rape Crisis, the launch of South Africa’s first ever Improv Festival, weekly performances at their usual venues and a few outrageous Jam Sandwich experiments at The Alexander Bar. The end of the year also saw celebrity guest, hilarious and outrageous Casper de Vries joining the team on stage, with the promise of joining them again in the new year, as well as four team members attending an improv festival on the island of Reunion in the first week of December.
2014 is set to be an even bigger and better improv year for ImproGuise, and it all kicks off with another fabulous run of their second ever Improv Festival at the Kalk Bay Theatre. Opening on Wednesday the 29 January, and running until Saturday the 8th of February, each night will be dedicated to a genre or format of long form improv very different from the usual short form games enjoyed on a Monday and Tuesday night at their regular shows. Last year saw audiences enthralled by full length Westerns, titillated by period dramas and tapping along to musicals. This year they will offer audience favourites as well as some brand new surprises to turn on all lovers of things made up.
