The imminent start of a new year means it is time for South African funnyman Alan Committie to bring audiences in the City of Gold another hilarious look at the world around us. Committie's twentieth show, PLANET MIRTH, is a high definition docu-comedy that promises all the infectious energy, physical hi-jinks, witty wordplay and hysterical observations audiences have come to love about his brand of comic madness. Fleur Du Cap Theatre Awards Lifetime Achievement recipient Christopher Weare directs the show. This production is the pair's nineteenth in partnership with each other. PLANET MIRTH is a comic look at - well - everything. Our planet has never been in a more precarious state, and that makes it ripe for Committie to unpack how we got here, where we are and how the heck we are ever going to move forward. Using stand up, characters and sketches, Committie will attempt to hysterically unpack history, geography, science, and even sport - but mostly the production promises to make audiences look at the world around them and laugh until they cry. Hiking obsessions, the science of sign language, the craziness of family gatherings, gallons of garnish and confusing astrology are just some of the topics around which PLANET MIRTH might revolve. There is even a sketch exploring what it must be like to be a certain president's therapist, one that promises to trump everything that goes before it. The show offers the perfect new year tonic to another mad year on this planet.
