Orfeo at Artscape Theatre

Award-winning director and designer Jaco Bouwer makes his CTO debut with Monteverdi’s haunting Orpheus opera, the earliest operatic work which has retained a place in the international canon. Created with collaborators Magdalene Minaar, Ina Wichterich and Wolf Britz, Bouwer’s production traces Orpheues’descent into darkness as he searches the underworld for his departed wife, Euridice. Kamal Khan leads a cast of young singers from CTO and the UCT Opera School through Monteverdi’s achiningly beautiful score, accompanied by the baroque instrumental ensemble Camerata Tinta Barocca.
