DRESS REHEARSAL FOR RUPERT MEMORIAL OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
With tickets for The Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra’s annual tribute concert to the late philanthropist, Mrs Huberte Rupert on November 29at the Endler Hall sold out, the orchestra has opened the dress rehearsal at 16:00 to the public to allow disappointed concertgoers to hear the all-Beethoven concert, entitled Beethoven’s Fifth.
Bernhard Gueller, the CPO’s principal guest conductor, will be on the podium to conduct the overture to Fidelio and Symphony No 5. in C minor. The CPO and Gueller will accompany the brilliant young pianist Qden Blaauw in the magnificent Emperor Concerto, the Concerto No. 5.
Blaauw is currently studying at the Royal Academy of Music in London, having just entered his second year there with acclaimed Russian pianist and teacher, Rustem Hayroudinoff. He was one of two international undergraduate students who received a full tuition scholarship from the institution - he is building on the reputation he garnered in South Africa with all the prizes he won. Most recently, Qden resumed composing when Berlin-based artist Robin Rhode commissioned him to create a series of tracks for the animations in his new exhibition, "Joburg Hymn." The exhibit celebrates Johannesburg while also highlighting areas in decay. Similar collaborative events are planned for Berlin and New York in 2025.
