Georges Feydeau’s classic French farce. Director Christopher Weare uses some of the most recognisable pop art of the 1960s, live on stage folly, and iconic guitar riffs in the telling of this story of of love, lust and marriage.
By shining a light on the ethic of the entitled and the appetites and hungers of mankind, Faydeau speaks not only to those of the belle époque, but also the central struggles between civilization and barbarity, control and chaos, passion and reason that characterize the very fabric of our present day and age.
Despite Feydeau’s person traumas, ‘An Absolute Turkey’ offers a relatively disabused but finally optimistic view of marriage and sexual relationships. Where there is love, Faydeau suggests, all the complications that arise from dishonesty and deception can finally be worked out.
