CEO of Lefra Productions, Frans Swart, has been presented with an ATKV Mediaveertjie for Best Presenter at a Community Radio Station. Swart's radio shows - which include a programme of music from the movies and musicals every Thursday night - air on East Rand Stereo. One of the most prestigious African media awards, the Mediaveertjies are awarded by the ATKV to standout contributors in print and electronic media, television and radio.
Swart says that the Mediaveertjie is not just his own: "I am grateful to our Heavenly Father for the talents and blessings! I also need to thank East Rand Stereo, which has been on the air for 18 years already and which has offered me the greatest broadcasting opportunities, and my director and team. And then to my wife, Hannelie, and my family: thank you for your wonderful support! "Swart has been involved with East Rand Stereo since the station went on the air in 1995 and said he was very grateful and excited about the award: "We are grateful that the ATKV recognises community radio stations for the incredible role that community radio stations currently play in South Africa, which is totally underestimated." Swart believes that advertising agencies and large corporations do not realize how many people are reached by community radio stations, and at a fraction of the cost of major national and commercial stations. He said that the time has come for advertising agencies to do better research on community stations and uncover the true nature of their clients. Swart continued: "It has become too easy to schedule advertising on major stations only. East Rand Stereo has been broadcasting for 18 years already, strong evidence that the station is one to be reckoned with and a station that will still broadcast for a long time to come. "Videos
