The College of Magic, Cape Town's only magical arts organisation, received note-worthy global recognition from the international magical fraternity when it was named as the recipient of the 2018 Sharing Secrets Allan Slaight Award on Wednesday 27 June 2018.
The Allan Slaight Awards is an initiative of the Slaight Family Foundation in honour of Canadian media mogul and philanthropist Allan Slaight, and his lifelong passion for and contribution to magic. In association with Magicana, an arts organisation dedicated to the study, exploration and advancement of magic as a performing art, these awards recognise outstanding achievement in the pursuit of the impossible.
The Sharing Secrets award, traditionally awarded to individuals (past award winners include celebrated magicians Mike Caveney, Richard Kaufman and John Lovick), recognises exceptionally creative and innovative work in the study of magic, and comes with an engraved iPad and a prize of $10,000 from the Slaight Family Foundation. The College of Magic is the first organisation to receive the award in this category.
Announcing the exciting news on their official Facebook page, Magicana were thrilled to present the award to the College:
"Congratulations to the College of Magic, this year's recipient for the SHARING SECRETS Allan Slaight Award. It is very moving to see so many young people positively changed through magic!"
