High school pupils have another chance to experience one of their prescribed Afrikaans literature texts in "3D" with the upcoming run of Adam Small's KRISMAS VAN MAP JACOBS next month.
The production is presented by Artscape's Audience Development and Education Department and is an extension of the theatre's commitment to educating young audiences. Artscape has already presented an adaptation of the popular Afrikaans novel, FIELA SE KIND, as a part of this educational season this year.
Directed by Andre Samuels, KRISMAS VAN MAP JACOBS wrestles with social issues like unemployment and poverty through the story of the titular gangster, who is released on parole after seven years in prison. While his family and friends wonder if he has changed his ways, there are many other issues at play. Set after the forced removals of many coloured families to the Cape Flats, KRISMAS VAN MAP JACOBS sheds light on the lifestyles of these displaced communities and their struggle for a better life.
The production is presented by Cape Heart, an organisation that assists learners of the Western Cape through workshops and programsmes to broaden their understanding of not only their subjects, but also their communities.
KRISMAS VAN MAP JACOBS will play the Artscape Arena from 6 - 21 May, with performances at 10:30 and 14:00 from Mondays to Thursdays and at 19:30 on Fridays and Saturday. Tickets cost R40 per person via Computicket or Artscape Dial-a-Seat on 021 421 7695.
