Sannie Fox Set for DOWN IN THE BASEMENT at the Book Lounge August 16

On Friday evening, 16th August, the Book Lounge is happy to have Sannie Fox in the Basement getting our feet tapping.

Fox has been described by THE NEW AGE as belting out the blues like she was born in a Louisiana swamp. She is a guitarist and vocalist based in South Africa with Portuguese and Afrikaans parentage. She began to sing and perform from a young age and remembers growing up listening to her parents records with an immediate affinity for an eclectic mix of artists ranging from Screaming Jay Hawkings, Led Zeppelin, Ella Fitzgerald, Patti Smith to John Lee Hooker and more. Her musical influences span from Soul music, to Jazz,to Dub, to Celtic Rock and Dance with an ever-strong delta blues base.

Tickets are on sale at the Book Lounge, which is in Roeland Street, Cape Town, for R35 and can only be bought with cash. As always tickets are limited, so don't take your sweet time to want to purchase them. The show starts at 6pm and we are all keenly awaiting the happiness our ears will feel.

Review: THE NUTCRACKER at the the Artscape Theatre Centre Is a Lush, Festive Treat

In December 2022, I had the honour of seeing Veronica Paeper and Cape Town City Ballet’s THE NUTCRACKER. The same talented production team returns this season to stage this timeless ballet again. The result is just as beautiful as when I watched it two years ago. While this year’s production takes place in the Theatre rather than the larger Opera House, the production does not lose any of the magic from the 2022 production.

ALL MY EX LOVERS ARE DEAD is part confessional, part intimate chat with a good friend. Written and directed by Dara Beth, this one-woman show is “an all too honest, mostly autobiographical reflection on love, desire, poor life choices, and how many cups of tea it takes to wake up and smell the coffee”. The production stars Qondiswa James as Echo, a hopeless romantic who probably wouldn’t describe herself that way.
