Sandra Prinsloo will star in MOEDERTAAL at the Fugard Studio Theatre for a limited season starting 14 November. Presented by Naskrif Produksies, the production comes to the Fugard Theatre off the theatre festival circuit, where it played to full houses and standing ovations.
Written and directed by Nico Scheepers, MOEDERTAAL is the next instalment in Prinsloo's trifecta of one-woman plays that began so beautifully with DIE NAAIMASJIEN and OSKAR EN DIE PIENK TANNIE. MOEDERTAAL is a raw and moving journey through life, a tender story about love and compassion.
A multiple award-winning actress and icon, Prinsloo needs no introduction to any audience. Previously seen on the Fugard Theatre stage in WIE'S BANG VIR VIRGINIA WOOLF? and SO RY MISS DAISY, she brings an undeniable fire to every part she plays.
Scheepers, who composed music for the play in addition to writing and directing it, is one of the most exciting young theatremakers in South Africa. His acclaimed productions include ROOIVALK, the kykNET Fiësta award winner for Best Newly Created Theatre Production and Best Production; WENTEL, with Anna-Mart van der Merwe; and AMPER VRYSTAAT, which was nominated for five BroadwayWorld South Africa Awards in 2016. Earlier this year, he directed a celebrated season of HEMELRUIM at the Fugard Theatre.
MOEDERTAAL runs until 2 December, with performances on Tuesdays through Saturdays at 20:00, with matinees on Saturdays at 16:00. Tickets cost from R130-R165 and are available online via Computicket, by phone on 086 191 58000 or 021 461 4554, or in person at any Shoprite Checkers outlet. MOEDERTAAL is performed in Afrikaans with English surtitles.
