Sandra Prinsloo, who is currently onstage in MOEDERTAAL at the Fugard Studio Theatre, has been awarded the Koker Prize for her lifetime contribution to Afrikaans and for her contribution to the Performing Arts and the incredible and enriching impact she has had on the literary and artistic landscape of Afrikaans.

Presented by the Afrikaanse Taalraad, the Kokers are the highlight of the society's annual programme, reflecting their focus on the championing of Afrikaans in its full diversity within a multilingual caste. This year's ceremony took place at the Zevenwacht Landgoed in Kuilsrivier.

Prinsloo's appearance in MOEDERTAAL is the third is a trifecta of solo plays that began with DIE NAAIMASJIEN and OSKAR EN DIE PIENK TANNIE. Written and directed by Nico Scheepers, MOEDERTAAL is a tender story about love and compassion, focusing on the Nellie as she reminisces about her childhood, her marriage to her beloved Johannes, their child, and the new challenges that old age has introduced to their life.

In his BroadwayWorld review of MOEDERTAAL, David Fick commented on Prinsloo's incredible performance in the play:

Prinsloo is everything that one has come to expect of her. Resourceful and ready to captivate audiences with her vulnerability on stage, Prinsloo gives Nellie a life that exists fully, beyond the constraints of the written word. The offbeat sense of humour with which Prinsloo provides Nellie only serves to highlight further the pathos that characterises much of the piece.

Tickets to see this legendary actor in action before MOEDERTAAL closes on 2 December are available through Computicket. Performances take place at 20:00 nightly, with matinees on Saturdays at 16:00. Tickets cost from R130-R165 and can also be reserved by phone on 086 191 58000 or 021 461 4554, or in person at any Shoprite Checkers outlet. MOEDERTAAL is performed in Afrikaans with English surtitles.

MOEDERTAAL has been nominated for four BroadwayWorld South Africa Awards, namely Best Play, Best New Work, Best Performer in a Leading Role in a Play and Best Director of a Play. Vote for your theatre picks of the year, submitted by BroadwayWorld readers, before the voting period closes on 31 December.
