The all South African production of the West End smash hit comedy SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE has been extended owing to overwhelming demand to 25 November at the Fugard Theatre. Extra matinee performances have also been added at 16:00 on Sundays.

SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE is an imaginative, sexy and timeless tale behind the creation of the greatest love story ever told in the sixteenth century for the twenty-first century. Written by Lee Hall and adapted from the Academy Award-winning screenplay by Tom Stoppard and Marc Norman, the comedy ran for an extended sold-out season at the West End's Noel Coward Theatre in London in 2014.

Eric Abraham presents this Fugard Theatre production and South African premiere of SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE, which has been playing to sold-out houses and critical acclaim from press and audiences alike, with BroadwayWorld's David Fick calling the production a "polished" adaptation of the film that inspired it in his review of the show.

Featuring 21 actors and a dog, SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE features Dylan Edy as Will Shakespeare, Roxane Hayward as Viola de Lesseps and also includes Cape Talk's John Maytham as Fennyman. Multiple award-winner Robyn Scott stars as Queen Elizabeth, with Jason K. Ralph as Lord Wessex, Lamar Bonhomme as Robin, Bianca Flanders as Mistress Quickly, Theo Landey as Marlowe, Nicholas Pauling as Ned Allen, Sven Ruygrok as Sam and Mark Elderkin as Burbage.

Completing the ensemble are Lucy Tops as Nurse, Nathan Lynn as John Webster, Louis Viljoen as Mr Wabash, Darron Araujo as Henslowe, Sizo Mahlangu as Lambert, Walter van Dyk as Tilney, Andrew Roux as Nol and Rachel Mertens.

Pierre Malherbe, who is no stranger to the Fugard Theatre stage, having been seen in productions such as CHAMP and THE KINGMAKERS, also joins the company for the final two weeks of the run.

SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE is directed by The Fugard Theatre's resident director Greg Karvellas. The production team includes Paul Wills (set design), Birrie Le Roux (costume design), Wolf Britz (lighting design), David Classen (sound design), Charl Johan Lingenfelder (musical direction) and Kristin Wilson (choreography).

SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE runs from Tuesdays to Saturdays at 20:00 with a 16:00 matinee performances on Saturdays and Sundays. The Fugard Theatre is situated in the heart of District Six, on the corner of Harrington and Caledon Streets, Cape Town. Tickets, costing R130 - R320, can be booked through The Fugard Theatre's box office on 021 461 4554 or through Computicket. There is a 15% discount available for the Friends of The Fugard members.

The Harrington Street car park, located at the corner of Caledon and Harrington streets, is available for the use of theatre patrons. Visit the cosy ground-floor bar, which opens two hours before all scheduled show times and stays open until last rounds are called. If the weather is fine, the bar on the fantastic rooftop terrace, with its panoramic views of the city, is opened. Both bars offer a range of wines from some of the Cape's top estates.
