The classic Tennessee Williams drama THE MILK TRAIN DOESN'T STOP HERE ANYMORE has opened at the Artscape Arena in a production directed by multiple award-winning director-designer, Fred Abrahamse.
Described as an allegory and a 'sophisticated fairy tale', the play takes a look at the final two days in the life of Flora "Sissy" Goforth, an aging beauty, whose last exotic summer is consumed with an effort to dictate her memoirs before she dies, a Mediterranean summer disturbingly interrupted by the appearance of a handsome young poet, known to play companion to wealthy old women as they near death.
Acclaimed stage and screen actress, Jennifer Steyn stars as Flora Goforth with Marcel Meyer as the poet, Chris Flanders, and Nicholas Dallas as Sissy's companion, the Witch of Capri. Newcomer Roelof Storm plays Goforth's secretary Blackie.
Director Abrahamse has also designed the set and lighting for the production with Meyer designing the costumes. Composer Charl-Johan Lingenfelder has created a musical soundscape that underscores the action of this dense and poetic play.
Scroll down to take a look at what is currently on stage over at the Artscape until 20 October 2013. Bookings for the show can be made through Computicket, with tickets ranging from R70 - R120. The production carries an age restriction of 16 due to nudity and language.
