PaperBoy, a fast-paced comedy filled with colourful characters, has its Cape Town premiere at Kalk Bay Theatre from 12 to 15 February at 8pm.
Written and performed by Durban-born Grant Jacobs and directed by the award winning Liam Magner, PaperBoy won a 2011 Standard Bank Ovation award at the National Arts Festival and has been performed to great acclaim across the country as well as at the Harare International Festival of Arts (HIFA) in Zimbabwe.
PaperBoy is the story of a boy finding himself in the mess of love, life and Murphy's law. Bobby Jones is a multi-faceted human being. By profession he is a newspaper delivery boy. However he also considers himself an aspiring detective, which often lands him and his misguided newspaper in trouble.
Bobby begins his day making a difference in the world by delivering the newspaper to the people of Alice Road, until his infamous right arm, swings a newspaper into an Open Window hitting the late Mrs Moodley's ashes flying into the air. This act of foolishness spins out of control and is a catalyst for a series of unfortunate yet amusing events which finds Bobby breaking into houses and using his 'James Bond' detective tactics to uncover some facts about his mother that were best kept under the rug.
PaperBoy is a show full of laughs, love and real people that takes a humorous but touching look at the ideas of self-fulfilment, ambition and truth. Don't miss Bobby Jones and his misguided newspaper in this fun filled family show!
