PACOFS takes great pleasure in presenting in association with Artscape, the production, MAFUKUZELA - SONGS OF FREEDOM, tonight, 30 May at 8.15 pm at Artscape Theatre.

Mafukuzela- Songs of Freedom is a narrative concert celebrating South Africa's heritage through honouring the people who contributed in the liberation struggle that led to freedom of the oppressed, and taking theatre to the people. It is therefore befitting that we celebrate John Langalibalele Dube, well known as Mafukuzela, J L Dube, a leader, priest, journalist, teacher, scholar, author and the first president of the African National Congress, a man who fought tirelessly for the education of a black child and for freedom of all Africans. He will be celebrated through movement and a fusion of Gospel, Indigenous music, choral, jazz and classical sounds starring diva songstress, Sibongile Khumalo, complemented with an orchestra, choir and dancers.

Under the flagship of the National Department of Arts and Culture (DAC) Mafukuzela - Songs of Freedom was conceptualised and presented at PACOFS under the direction of Jerry Pooe. This production created skills transfer and job opportunities for Free State artists and is also encouraging social cohesion as it has a mixed cast from different races, religion and cultures. The young artists from the Free State got an opportunity to be trained during the making of the show by Sibongile Khumalo and Jerry Pooe.

Mafukuzela - Songs of Freedom at Artscape Theatre promises to be an unforgettable evening featuring a 10 piece orchestra, an 8 piece choir, 5 dancers, 2 narrators together with special guest artist Sibongile Khumalo.

Book at Computicket or Artscape Dial-a-Seat 021 421 7695. Tickets are at R100 and R120; one performance only.
