New Daneel van Der Walt Cabaret DANI AND THE LION for Alexander Bar Upstairs Theatre

Fleur du Cap Theatre Award winning actress Daneel van der Walt will appear in a brand new cabaret, DANI AND THE LION, at the Alexander Bar and Café's Upstairs Theatre.

Van der Walt - who won the award for her turn as Magenta in THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW - wrote music and lyrics for the piece herself, with musical arrangements by Roelof Colyn (A HANDFUL OF KEYS, HAIRSPRAY, FIELA'S CHILD), who joins her on stage in the production. Direction and design for the piece is by Jason Potgieter (THE THINGS YOU LEFT BEHIND, GET KRAKEN!, DIRTY WORDS), with DANI AND THE LION being presented under the banner of the Instant Arts Collective.

Ever thought what it might be like if everyone had their own personal band following them around from birth, playing the soundtrack to their life? Some might have a 3-piece garage set, some a full orchestra, others a mariachi quartet. Dani (Van der Walt) has Leo (Colyn). Leo is a depressed lion who plays the keys and occasionally offers a "do-whup" or an "oooh-wah" if he's sober enough to sing. Together, Dani and the Lion present a 65 minute cabaret-styled journey into the mind of a rather charming and somewhat quirky chick, who will have audiences laughing, clapping, sighing and maybe even bebopping too.

DANI AND THE LION runs from 1-3 June at the Alexander Upstairs Theatre. Tickets can be booked online at the Alexander Bar website or purchased in person at the bar at any time during its regular opening hours. Under 18s must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
