Mixing Bowl Productions, Cape Town's vibrant and new musical theatre company, returns to Alexander Bar with NO JAZZ HANDS ALLOWED for three performances at the start of February. NO JAZZ HANDS ALLOWED is a concert series that showcases contemporary musical theatre pieces performed by a cast comprised of Cape Town's top performers and vocalists.
Mixing Bowl Productions is a theatre production company focusing on small-scale alternate musical theatre. Mixing Bowl strives to produce musical theatre that is cutting-edge and pushes the boundaries of the form. Mixing Bowl Productions made its debut at the National Arts Festival last year with a new musical theatre revue, IN-BETWEEN, which showcased the work of a wide variety of composers and lyricists, whose work blends jazz, rock and pop with intricate narratives.
NO JAZZ HANDS ALLOWED allows both Capetonian audiences and the performers themselves the opportunity to discover and experience new musical theatre gems like these. By turns comical and pensive, the pieces explore contemporary experiences of love, loss, sex and more. This run features Amy Campbell, Richard White, Tammy De Klerk and Keenan Oliphant alongside special guest artist, Amanda Tiffin. Oliphant directs, with musical direction for the shows done by Kurt Haupt.
NO JAZZ HANDS ALLOWED runs from 4 - 6 February at the Alexander Upstairs at 21:00. Tickets cost R80 if booked and prepaid online at the Alexander Bar's website, or R90 if paid for at the theatre itself. Tickets can also be purchased at the bar, which is situated at 76 Strand Street in Cape Town's city centre, anytime during its regular opening hours. Under 18s must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Keep up to date with events at Alexander Bar on Facebook and Twitter.
