JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT is back at Theatre on the Bay, this time with a new Narrator. South African television presenter and Afrikaans singing sensation, Nádine, stepped into the role originated in this revival by Bianca le Grange during the recent Johannesburg run of the show, also performing in its recent stint at the Opera House in Port Elizabeth.
After almost 20 years, Nádine is an artist that stands for quality, inspiration, energy, style and motivation in the South African music and television industries. The youngster surprised young and old with "Krappies en Krefies" when she was only 13. Five years later she recorded the legendary "Kaapse Draai", a song that became an evergreen hit in the Afrikaans music industry. More hits soon followed for the girl who had become a teenage superstar.
In 2008, international doors opened with the massive release of THIS TIME I KNOW, an album that was recorded in Sweden and released in Germany, China, South Africa and worldwide via iTunes. Nádine became the first South African to win the annual World Peace Song Festival; her recording of the title track of her album beat performances by Coldplay and Ladyhawke for the award in 2010.
Her stunning live performances quickly caused a buzz, also in the theatre industry when Nádine was nominated for the both Fleur du Cap and Naledi Theatre Awards for her performance as Mary Magdalene in JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR - another musical based on biblical sources from JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT's Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice.
Shortly after JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, Nádine was invited by top Afrikaans drama and theatre producer Deon Opperman, to play the lead role in the musical LIED VAN MY HART opposite Steve Hofmeyr and Elzabe Zietsman at the State Theatre in Pretoria.
With SKILDERY, her latest local album, Nádine took the chart position in the Afrikaans music again with the hit song "Skildery," which reached the #1 position on radio stations nationwide. The album was nominated for two GHOEMA awards and a SAMA (South African Music Awards)! Less than three months after the #1 position with "Skildery" Nádine did it all over again with the album's power ballad, "Tyd". Nádine has also been presented with SARIE's Red Carpet Glamour Celebrity award.
In addition to her music career, Nádine is the presenter of the tv show MUSIEK ROULETTE, which airs on SABC2 at 20:00 on Friday nights. Her work on that show has earned her a nomination at the Tempo Awards.
Directed by Paul Warwick Griffin (SUNSET BOULEVARD, EVITA, HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL), this touring production - which is described by Pieter Toerien Productions as one that has been "dynamically re-imagined" - has been both in the City of Gold, the Mother City and the Friendly City. Now back in Cape Town at Theatre on the Bay, JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT runs until 8 April. Tickets are available from R125 via the box office at Theatre on the Bay on 021 438 3100, or Computicket on 08619158000.
