Lefra's farces are an annual institution in South Africa, and in 2017, fans can look forward to MY MAN SE SKELMPIE SE SKELMPIE SE VROU. The loud-out-loud production, under the direction of Frans Swart, South Africa's king of farce, will run for three performances at the Sand du Plessis Theatre as a part of the Vrystaat Arts Festival.

Arno Schaap (Wynand van Vollenstee) plans to seduce Janie (Jennifer Myburgh), a beautiful young stripper, with the help of a fur coat. Unfortunately for him, Janie is married to Harry Volk (Phillru van Achterbergh), who will certainly suspect that something is amiss should his wife arrive home with such an expensive gift. Arno comes up with a plan to discount the coat so that Janie can convince Harry to buy it for her while Arno pays the difference. But Harry, who realises that the fur is a bargain, has his own plans, deciding that he will buy it for his mistress, Sue.

Things are further complicated for Arno and his assistant, Chris Haasbroek (Johny Klein) when Janie strips and refuses to leave the store without the fur. As they hysterically attempt to get back the fur from Harry and to hide the naked Janie from Arno's wife, Maude (Marissa Claasen), even more people arrive to stir the pot, including Sue's husband, André (Francois van Rensburg) as well as the somewhat eccentric Commander Holberg and his wife (Rouel Beukes and Elma Potgieter).

Swart says that he has worked on a number of crazy farces before, but that this one takes the cake. Van Achterbergh also serves as the production's assistant director.

MY MAN SE SKELMPIE SE SKELMPIE SE VROU runs at the Sand du Plessis Theatre on 21 July at 14:30 and 19:00 and on 22 July at 19:30. Bookings can be made online through Computicket, by phone on 0861 915 8000, or in person at any Shoprite or Checkers outlet nationwide. The production is presented in collaboration with Bains Lodge, Stuttafords Van Lines, Counterpoint Furnishers, RSG and Sounds Good.
