MY LOW-FAT, ALMOST ITALIAN WEDDING is a comedy by legendary South African playwright, Paul Slabolepszy, set in the crazy world of an Italian trattoria and concludes the 9th Artscape Spring Drama Season. Featuring a cast of leading actors, it runs from 19 December 2013 to 4 January 2014 at the Artscape Arena.
MY LOW-FAT, ALMOST ITALIAN WEDDING is the story of the marriage of Salvatore's and Mavis's daughter Victoria. The day turns into wild comic chaos as chef Alpheus tries to take over Salvatore's ristorante in order to sell pap en vleis. The bride? Will she be stood up at the altar? Has Joey's security company shot dead a "garden boy" at a home or the tenant? Okay, he's black, but at the dawn of the "new South Africa" (1994) is everyone up for change? For Salvatore, even though the day goes malako, South Africa is still the beautiful country and perhaps he will abandon his plans to return to Italy.
"We are thrilled to have a play by Paul. Over the past few years he has been sadly absent from the South African theatre. LOW-FAT is one of his favourite plays and with his unerring eyes and ears he paints a bustling and hysterically funny picture of life at the Tratorria Vittoria. The play is as earthy as the dust of Johannesburg and as exotic as the wine of Sicily," says director Roy Sargeant.Videos
